The General Overseer, Worldwide of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Adeboye, has declared that a lack of true leadership is responsible for the woes bedeviling the church and the nation. He made this assertion on Wednesday, while delivering his address at the Third Annual Birthday Public Lecture organised by the church to commemorate his 75th birthday in Ikeja, Lagos State.
Represented by his wife, Folu, the clergy expressed disappointment at the lack of true leadership in the society and maintained that the problem of corruption in the country was traceable to greed and lack of contentment.
While calling for introspection amongst the church leaders and members, Adeboye lamented the unfortunate prevalence of a terrible state of leadership in the church.
“If there is anywhere leadership should be recommended, it should be from the church. But it is unfortunate that the worst leadership is from the church.
I challenge the leaders in this church that what the Bible says about elders, I have not seen it. But things are changing and I want us to be part of that change.
The problem of corruption which we have in this nation would not have been there if everybody is contented with what he or she has. But people love to do more than they have.
They want to show off to their children, and the children also when they get to school or are with their colleagues, are not satisfied because they were not brought up to be satisfied.”
This is coming after a backdrop of events that led to Adeboye’s retirement as the Nigerian General Overseer of RCCG due to the enforcement of the Corporate Governance Code by the Federal Government and subsequent leadership uncertainties in the Church.
