Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Dr. Nicholas Okoh, has urged Nigerians to avoid hate speech but rather speak peace and love to one another.

Okoh made the call in Kano on Saturday when he led some members of his church to visit Governor Abdullahi Ganduje at the Government House.

“Hate speech has serious consequences on our country as it promotes violence, extremism, and conflicts.

“Most of the adherents of these two religions (Islam and Christianity) don’t have the proper understanding of the teachings of their religions; that is why we have a problem with hate speech,” the clergyman said.

Nicholas Okoh also called on Nigerians to preach love, tolerance and understanding to encourage the nation’s growth and foster unity.

“We have critical roles to play in nation-building and we must work for the progress of the country because we believe in one Nigeria,” he added.
