The Presidency has queried the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for a total negligence and silence on what it described as an unchristlike remark by the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman.
In response to the incessant killings in the north, the parson was quoted to have said, “Any Fulani herdsman you see around you, kill him. I have told them in the church here, that any Fulani herdsman that just entered by mistake, Kill him, Kill Him. Cut his head. If they are busy killing Christians over there and nothing is happening, we will kill them and nothing will happen.”
A Presidency official who pleaded anonymity queried CAN for not responding swiftly to Suleman. He enquired, “Is CAN aware of this kind of statement? Is it in line with Christian conduct? Why hasn’t there been a condemnation of this kind of criminal conduct? There is some understandable outrage about cases of violence in Southern Kaduna, yet this coming from a religious leader is certainly even more outrageous.”
The official called on all religious leaders in the country, Christian or non-Christian to condemn Apostle Suleman’s speech and call him to order.
Meanwhile, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has expressed disappointment over the perpetual shunning of the association by President Muhammad Buhari after several requests.
The President of the Youth Wing of CAN (YOWICAN), Engr. Daniel Kadzai expressed discouragement and dissatisfaction at the non-encouraging signs shown by the government towards issues affecting the body.
He expressed regret that the government of Buhari has frustrated every effort made by CAN to meet with her and brainstorm on potential ways to tackle the unfortunate killings in the north especially in Southern Kaduna.
“He has made attempt to see the President of this country to table some challenges that had bedevilled the nation as a nation and the challenges facing the Christendom. Unfortunately, the Federal Government of Nigeria is not willing to see the CAN President,” he said.
Kadzai warned that meeting with any leader of a Christian group aside CAN is dangerous, as such person do not represent the Christians in Nigeria but his or her denomination.
