Over 20,000 pupils in Lagos State have benefitted from the Back to School initiative of the Daystar Christian Center of Senior Pastor Sam Adeyemi.

The event took place simultaneously at six different locations in the state. They include Idimu, Agege, Ikorodu, Lekki, Badagry and Oregun.

The initiative is aimed at offering free educational items and school materials to children towards resumption of another academic session.

Senior Pastor of Daystar Church, Sam Adeyemi, said the initiative is his way of contributing to society and assisting the government in ensuring quality education among its citizens.

The cleric urged other church leaders to support the governments at all levels in solving societal issues, especially in the area of education, stressing that this would contribute to the development of the nation.

“We as a church believe and practice the teaching of Christ on being responsible to the society where we live. We believe government alone cannot fix societal problems. Noticing the gap, a unit in our church started the campaign seven years ago and it has since become an annual event for us. This year, we decentralized around six locations so that many people can benefit.”

Mother of a beneficiary, Mrs. Babarinde Folashade, expressed joy at the gesture from the church. “If all churches are doing this, it will attract unbelievers to Christ. Church is not all about preaching but when you meet their needs they will go out there and tell others.”

“There are lots of Muslims here too. Others churches should follow this footstep. I am really happy for this because I don’t have to buy school bags and some materials for my children anymore,” she said.
