The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria (PCN) has condemned the incessant and mindless killings across different parts of the country.

The Church made its feelings known in a communiqué issued at the end of the 23rd General Assembly of the Church held at the Hope Waddell Parish sanctuary over the weekend.

In the communiqué signed by the Moderator of the General Assembly, His Eminence Nzie Eke and the Principal Clerk, Rev Eseme William, the Church lamented the numbers of Nigerians killed in various parts of the country.

“It is even more worrisome to note the lack of effective measures to check the rising spate of killings and to arrest and persecute those behind the carnage,” the Church said.

PCN noted with dismay, the current security challenges in the country characterised by widespread killings, intimidation and general violence perpetrated by Boko Haram insurgents, herdsmen and rampaging bandits.

The Church called for an urgent overhaul of the nation’s security apparatus to check the evil trend of killings and criminality across the country.

“Adequate equipping in terms of meeting the manpower needs of the security agencies as well as the provision of enough arms, ammunition and other logistics should be vigorously pursued to restore the value of life and property in Nigeria,” it said.
