Man protesting Asia Bibi's release

The government of Italy has offered to ensure safety of pakistani woman, Asia Bibi, who was acquitted after being sentenced for blaspheming Muhammad, the Prophet of Islam.

Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini told an Italian radio station on Tuesday that the country’s Foreign Ministry was working with other countries.

“I want women and children whose lives are at risk to be able to have a secure future, in our country or in other Western countries, so I will do everything humanly possible to guarantee that,” he said.

“It is not permissible that in 2018 someone can risk losing their life for a … hypothesis of blasphemy,” he added.

Violent protests erupted in Pakistan last week after the nation’s highest court acquitted Bibi of the charges against her.

Bibi’s family has warned that her life is in danger and her lawyer has also fled the country.
