Catholic Foundation Committed to the Youth
Catholic Caritas Foundation of Nigeria (CCFN) is committed to providing necessary formation and facilities to make Catholic youths effective agents of evangelization, good citizens and future leaders of the country.
This assurance was given by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Rev. Fr. Uche Obodochiena, in his address at the opening ceremony of the one-week long training programme jointly organized by the Youth Committee of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) and the CCFN.
The programme tagged, Youth Ministry: Mission/Purpose, took place at the Daughters of Devine Love Retreat and Conference Centre (DRACC), Lugbe, Abuja and was attended by about 200 chaplains and youth leaders from Archdioceses and dioceses in the country.
Welcoming the participants to the programme, on behalf Rev. Fr. Evaristus Bassey, the Executive Secretary of CCFN, Rev. Fr. Obodochiena stressed the need for the youths of the Church to embrace creativity and resourcefulness to enable them to be self-employed and face challenges in times of difficulties.
According to him, the Catholic Foundation is saddened by the spate of corruption in the country as well as unemployment of youths and continuous drift of Catholic youths to other denominations lured by juicy promises that cannot be fulfilled.
Obodochiena noted that the dangers the above mention challenges portend for the future of the country and her youths, hence the determination and commitment of CCFN to provide leeway for the youths of the Church through proper formation.
The cleric added that the workshop conference is part of the plans of the Foundation in this perspective. While urging the participants to take advantage of the programme to enhance their knowledge, he urged them to embrace professional knowledge that can make them self-reliant, have gainful employment and be employers of labour in the process.
