Christian Elders Caution Emir Sanusi Over Comments

The leadership of the Northern States Christian Elders Forum (NOSCEF) has cautioned the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, against utterances capable of endangering the peace and unity of the nation.

In a statement on Sunday by the chairman and secretary, Bishop Isaac Philip and Rev. (Dr.) David Ibi, in Jalingo, Taraba State, the group decried the recent remarks credited to the monarch where he allegedly accused Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku and his Benue counterpart, Samuel Ortom, of training militias to confront the Fulani people in their states.

According to the forum, the comment was capable of pitching Nigerians along ethnic and religious divides.

According to the statement, “We have not forgotten that the injurious statement made by the same emir Sanusi where he specially alleged that the Taraba State government masterminded the genocide against the Fulani on the Mambilla Plateau, Sardauna Local Government Area where over 800 were killed last year.

“The allegations by the Emir of Kano and his cohort are to aggravate the bloody crisis between the indigenous farmers and the herdsmen in the aforementioned two states.

“It is indeed curious and suspicious that emir, who is an avowed member of the Board of Trustees of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association worldwide, would be making spurious statements of such inflammable magnitude.”
