Pride Identified as Bane of Disunity Among Christians
To achieve peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, the Ajegunle quarters of the Heavenly Culture for World Peace and Restoration of Light (HWPL), led by Pastor Kenneth Okunorobo of The Root of Righteous Revival Ministry, have urged Christians to drop whatever pride and religious beliefs they have, so they can be united.
He said this at the 34th edition of the group’s meeting to commemorate the Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW).
He said, “If we cannot be united in a foreign land, we won’t be able to come home and practise what we have learned. Nigerians are not united and I noticed it in the last DCPW conference in South Korea. We had about 40 Nigerians, including four Nigerian governors’ wives in attendance, but there was no avenue for us to sit down and talk, like other countries were doing.
“This is because the pride in us is too much. If we cannot be united over there, how can we return here and preach the gospel of peace and unity to our people. We need to start coordinating ourselves from here in Lagos at least, and then attract the president and Lagos State governor’s attention.”
Muslim Leader, Imam Adangba, who spoke on DPCW’s principles, said for religious harmony and culture of peace to reign among Nigerians, religious leaders should come together and understand one another, as God does not belong to just one religion.
He said, “Religion is about teachings from heaven, it is not human. Religious leaders should respect and love according to their scriptures and realise peace. Let them come together and understand one another. I have learned a lot from Pastor Kenneth and he also learned a lot from me. We later agreed that the Bible and Qur’an are saying the same thing. It is just our interpretations that brought these divisions amongst us.
“Sometimes, you find Muslims or Christians that are evil. But there are also very good Muslims, Christians and Buddhists, among others, that follow God’s regulations. Unless there is no war again, then we are not going to be spared of ruins and damages. But when there is cessation of war, then the whole world would be a better place to live in.”
