CAN Protest in Adamawa Turns Violent
A peaceful procession organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Adamawa State, turned violent when armed policemen clashed with the civilians.
CAN said it organised the protest to register its displeasure with killer herdsmen who have attacked over 43 communities mainly inhabited by Christians in the state.
However, it became violenr after Members of the Police Force policemen pinned down the protesters at strategic spots, blocking them from reaching the Government House.
At a point, the Police resorted to firing live bullets as the people remained defiant.
In a reaction, state CAN Chairman, Dami Mamza, faulted the security architecture in the country for the incessant killings in Adamawa State, saying members of the security set-up in the country are complicit in the killings.
According to him, “While several Christians have been killed on a daily basis, the protest is not about just Christians but on the sanctity of human lives.
“God is the one that gives life and no one has the right to take it recklessly.
“The government has a responsibility to protect human lives and that is what we are demanding for.”
The clergy also slammed the security architecture of the country for the indiscriminate loss of lives.
