Christian woman, Asia Bibi, who was acquitted of a blasphemy charge by the Pakistan’s highest court has been banned from leaving the country.
This comes as part of a deal made between the government and an Islamist party.
Despite her lawyer Saif ul-Malook, saying “A person alleged to have committed blasphemy cannot live in Pakistan”, authorities are taking action to put her on the Exit Control list.
Malook, who successfully won her court appeal, has now fled Pakistan for safety after violent Muslim rioters who had threatened to kill him along with Bibi and other people who supported her.
Asia Bibi was convicted in 2010 of insulting the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad, but was acquitted last week.
