Adeboye Calls For Persistence In Prayer

Adeboye Calls For Persistence In Prayer

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christians Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged Christians to remain persistent in prayer so as to emerge victorious in trying times.

Adeboye gave the advice during a sermon he delivered at the RCCG national headquarters in Ebute Meta, Lagos, to mark Easter Sunday.

He said just as Jesus Christ conquered death on the cross of Calvary, Christians must also work towards overcoming tribulations.

According to the cleric every Christian’s greatest sacrifice was x-rayed on Good Friday which marked the sufferings, passion and death of Jesus.

He however, urged Christians to be steadfast and emerge victorious during pressing circumstances; same way as Jesus when he rose from the dead.

Let us enforce victory over every situation that is going on in our country as we celebrate the risen Christ,” he said.

He urged all Christians to be bold and perceive every trying situation as a “horse” which could be divinely used in obtaining victory.

He also urged the congregation to engage in the proclamation of the gospel of Christ on earth, and herald his resurrection.

Bishop Odedeji Reminds Christians Of Easter’s Truth

The Bishop, Diocese of Lagos West, Anglican Communion, The Rt. Rev. Dr. James Odedeji has reminded Christians of the truth of Easter while also pointing out its importance for the Christian.

While speaking at this year’s Easter service at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral (AVMCC), Ikeja, Lagos, the Bishop stated that the Christian faith has its foundation on this historic event.

Drawing his text from John 20, Odedeji said, “Take the resurrection of Christ from the Christian faith and you have nothing. In as much as we celebrate christmas and other liturgical days, this is the cornerstone.”

He further pointed out its relevance saying, THe resurrection is a reminder that death is not the end of our lives, for those who have fallen asleep in Christ are not lost.

“It affirms the truthfulness of the life and words of Jesus. It is an affirmation of God’s words and promises. He is a trustworthy God.”

According to Bishop Odedeji, Christians have a living Saviour and it is a news worth sharing with the world.

Christians Mark Easter At Jerusalem’s Holy Sepulchre

Christians Mark Easter At Jerusalem’s Holy Sepulchre

Hundreds of pilgrims filed into Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre — believed to be the site of Jesus’s resurrection — for Easter celebrations on Sunday.

Western Christians marked Easter on Sunday, while eastern Orthodox Christians do so on April 8.

The eastern Orthodox marked Palm Sunday on April 1 and also held mass at the church in Jerusalem’s Old City, with worshippers holding palm fronds as is tradition.

Some worshippers prostrated over a stone — where they believe Jesus’s body was anointed before his burial — near the towering wooden doors at the entrance to the church.

The church is built at the site where Christians believe Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected. A recently renovated ornate shrine within the church surrounds the cave where Jesus is believed to have been buried.

Easter marks the day when Christians believe the miracle of his resurrection occurred.

Catholic Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa held mass at the church on Sunday morning near the shrine over the cave, entering dressed in the traditional purple Easter robe.

He made reference to the Middle East’s numerous conflicts in his homily, saying “our times are marked by death”.

“Easter is the ability to come back and look at our history in the light of the promise of life that takes place today,” he said.
“Yes, today, at Easter, we announce a life that death can no more extinguish.”

On Friday, Christians traced the route of the Stations of the Cross through the Old City, which pass through the traditional sites of Jesus’s condemnation up to his crucifixion.

In March 2017, renovations to the 19th-century shrine covering Jesus’s tomb were unveiled following a $3.7 million project that restored its stones to their original reddish-yellow and reinforced the heavily visited site.

The Greek Orthodox, Armenian and Roman Catholic denominations share custody of the church, but disputes between the three had led to renovations being delayed for decades.

Christians Around the World Celebrate Easter

Christians Around the World Celebrate Easter

Today, Christians around the world celebrate Easter. It is the most important and holiest day of the Christian calendar. It is the day set aside to remember Jesus’ resurrection three days after He was crucified and killed.

The day marks the end of the Holy Week, which is the week before the resurrection and includes Maundy Thursday, the day of Jesus’ last supper with His Disciples, and Good Friday, the day of His crucifixion.

With joyful hearts, millions troop to churches to mark the day.

As Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 15:14 “…if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain,” the veracity of the Christian faith hinges on this important event.

As Christians celebrate Jesus’ resurrection today, we pray that the hope of that faithful resurrection morning will shine in the hearts of all. Happy Easter!

Audio: Preye Omayuku – It is Finished

Gospel minister, Preye Omayuku, celebrated the Easter period by releasing a new single, “It is finished”. Titled with the last three words spoken by Jesus while he hung on the cross at Calvary, “It is finished” is a rock themed song.

Omayuku expresses all that the crucifixion of Jesus Christ made available to Christians all over the world. This is a timely reminder that the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus stands for something much more than everyday martyrdom.

In addition to the gift of eternal life that was poured out on the day, we are reminded of the healing, prosperity, and all other benefits that are ours because of the sacrifice that was made at Calvary. The song is the first single to be released from her highly anticipated sophomore album scheduled for release in 2018.

Lyrics:

Tell me, what can I do,
to make you see that it’s all done,
I did it all on Calvary and then I said
that ‘it is finished’
all your sins forgiven
all your sins forgotten
all your sickness gone
answers to your questions
all has been forgiven
everything forgotten
I rewrite your story
it’s a new beginning

It is finished

And every hand that points
every judgment made,
every ordinance, He nailed to the cross,
for now there’s no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus,
Whom the son sets free, he is free indeed

I’m not what I used to be,
since my Jesus came and He turned me around…

With solemn services, millions troop to churches to mark the day.

However, in places like Egypt, Coptic Christians would be forced to pray alongside security checkpoints, police guards and the threat of religious violence.

According to analysts, the fate of the Coptic Christians – an ancient religious minority face a persecution today that is the worst that has ever been.

ISIS bombers targeted these Christians during Palm Sunday a week ago, killing 44 people in twin attacks on churches in two different cities.

As Christians celebrate Jesus’ resurrection today, we pray that the hope of that faithful Easter morning will shine in the hearts of all who are being persecuted, and motivate others to do more for them in prayer and deed.

Christians Celebrate Good Friday

Today, Christians all over the world celebrate Good Friday. It is a day set aside during the Holy Week, to mark the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ at Calvary. Good Friday is also known as Holy Friday, Great Friday, Black Friday or Easter Friday.

The day involves people fasting and praying, and Church services in remembrance of Jesus’ crucifixion. For Christians, the day is observed with great humility and reference. People honour and remember the passion and suffering of Christ.

The account of the events leading to the crucifixion as recorded by the Gospel writers begin with the Lord’s Super, the prayer and struggle in Gethsemane and ultimately His betrayal by one of twelve Disciples, Judas Iscariot (all taking place Thursday evening).

Having been arrested and led to Pilate by the Jewish leaders with conflicting testimonies, He is scourged, mocked and sentenced to be crucified by Pilate in spite of His apparent innocence.

Christians believe as the Bible says, that God had chosen to make out of this apparent gruesome and terrible day, the greatest story of history.  As the Apostle Paul writes, “God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself” 2 Corinthians 5:19. Thus, the day is supreme and central to the Believer.

Men meant that Friday for evil, but God meant it for good, and so we call it Good Friday.

Nick Vujicic: Easter is About the Sacrifices of Jesus Christ not Bunnies and Eggs

Nick Vujicic, the man known around the world as the “limbless evangelist” as he was born without any arms and legs, said in an Easter message that the holiday is about the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, not bunnies and eggs.

“With Easter soon approaching, I want to take the next week to focus on the relentless, comforting love provided to us by Christ Jesus. Many people associate Easter with bunnies and eggs, but I want to take the next week to focus on the sacrifice Christ made for US,” Vujicic wrote on Facebook Sunday.

“Despite our messy, sinful, human-ness, Jesus sacrificed Himself as an act of real love, so that we may be made whole. I can’t wait to go on this journey of experiencing the love of God together.”

The evangelist cited Mark 8:31 in the Bible, which reads:

“He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that He must be killed and after three days rise again.”

Vujicic is known for his inspirational message of how he overcame depression and a life without limbs.
