88 year old Graduates from college 58 years after admission.
88 year old Rev. Horace Sheffield has finally graduated from college 58 years after admission.
Sheffield got into Shorter University in 1959 and left in 1965 without a diploma because his family needed him.
According to WTSP in Tampa, Sheffield had some daughters that were getting ready to begin college. He said, “I couldn’t go to college and put them through, so I dropped out with 115 hours”
Having been ordained the same year he graduated from high school, Sheffield spend the next seven decades teaching the Bible.
His wife Bernice died from Alzheimer’s disease a few years ago, after a marriage that lasted for 68years.
This was the pivotal moment that led Rev. Sheffield to do something for himself.
“Sixty years later I want that degree, and I’m going to get it…,” he said.
He then reenrolled at Shorter University in Rome, Ga.
Sheffield’s degree is in Christian studies, but he says he has no plans of giving up retirement.
