The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri has expressed worry over President Muhammadu Buhari’s refusal to sign the Electoral Act amended by the National Assembly.
The Head, Justice, Development Peace and Caritas Commission, JDPC, of the Church, Rev. Fr. Gerald Njoku made this known while speaking to newsmen in Owerri.
According to him, “The position of the church before this latest development is that the signing and implementation of the amended bill will sufficiently improve our electoral process and guarantee elections that will be acceptable to majority of the stakeholders. One can therefore imagine the disappointment that greeted the non signing of the bill.
“The church overtime has been known to be procursor to good governance as well as protecting and speaking for the voiceless.
“In playing this role, the church has often been misunderstood and sometimes maligned. It is our determination to state here that the church though not insulated from mistakes, will continue to advocate for justice and good governance.”
