Bishop, Diocese of Lagos West, Anglican Communion, The Rt. Rev. Dr. James Odedeji

Cleric and Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West (Anglican Communion), The Rt. Revd. Dr. James Olusola Odedeji, has reminded Christians of the indispensability of the Holy Spirit in their lives.

The Bishop made this assertion during his Sunday sermon to commemorate the 2017 Pentecost at Arch Bishop Vinning Memorial Church Cathedral (AVMCC), Ikeja Lagos.

Well highlighting more than five roles the Holy Spirit plays in the life of every Christian, he said:

“As the seal of our salvation, the Holy Spirit places on us God’s stamp of approval as His own.

“He enables us to go out and evangelize the world, fulfilling the Great Commission just as the early Apostles and Disciples did.

“Being the fulfillment of God’s promise through the Prophet Joel, He opens our eyes to see the deep things of God while also endowing us with wisdom from above.

“The Holy Spirit comforts us in this world stricken with pain and suffering, and He also sets us free from fear and bondage, to confront whatever challenges life presents.”

Revd. Odedeji reminded Christians of the impossibility of doing God’s work and serving Him if we are not empowered by His Spirit.

Pentecost is celebrated on the fiftieth day after Easter. Commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ and the official inauguration of the Church while they were in Jerusalem, as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:1–31).
